Self-Care Is Sector Care: A Call to Rebalance
Self-Care Is Sector Care: A Call to Rebalance
You may have noticed the pace picking up the last few weeks. Between mounting demands, limited resources, year-end campaigns, and the weight of sector-wide challenges, nonprofit teams are feeling the pressure — and it’s not just seasonal. The intensity is becoming a constant, and many are navigating it while trying to stay grounded and mission focused.
At Balanced Good, we’ve been paying close attention to what the ONN’s State of the Sector Wellbeing Index is telling us: 70% of nonprofit staff are experiencing burnout, and 36% say their overall wellbeing is poor or very poor. These aren’t just numbers — they’re signals that our sector needs care, now more than ever.
This work isn’t new to us. For years, we’ve supported teams through transitions, coached leaders navigating overwhelm, and helped organizations build cultures that prioritize well-being. We’ve seen firsthand how burnout shows up — not just in individuals, but in systems. It’s in the missed lunch breaks, the unspoken stress, the “just one more thing” that becomes a pattern. And it’s in the policies and practices that unintentionally reward overextension and martyrdom.
We believe that self-care is a shared responsibility.
It’s not just about bubble baths, getting outside for walks, or breathing exercises — it’s about rethinking how we work. It’s about creating space for reflection, building in time to rest, and designing workflows and teams that support sustainability. It’s about naming the pressure and choosing to do things differently.
Why now? Because we see the toll. We know that even the most mission-driven teams can’t sustain impact without rest, reflection, and realistic workloads. And we know that many organizations want to make changes — but feel too busy, too stretched, or too unsure of where to start.
That’s where we come in. Our coaching and consulting services are designed to meet teams where they are — whether you need a sounding board, a strategic plan, or just an extra hand. We help organizations build practices that prioritize people, without compromising impact.
We envision a nonprofit sector that values people, where care is embedded in policy, practice, and culture. Where burnout isn’t inevitable, and balance isn’t rare.
